What is Debriefing?
“Debriefing is the deliberate process of unpacking and processing your past experiences with a facilitator for the purpose of understanding your story in a holistic and life-giving way so that you can transition well into whatever is next. Debriefing is not a substitute for counseling, clinical care, spiritual direction, or coaching, but may serve as an entry point into these avenues for growth and/or healing.” Train International
What is Debriefing?
Debriefing centers around an event or period of time of your choosing in order to help you process that event, see it in context, and find meaning behind it. A debriefer is a trained individual who has a heart to sit down and hear your story well, working with you to get your story out in a safe and secure manner.
The telling of your story can be powerful. Biologically it can move blood from the back of your brain (fight or flight) to the front (processing emotions and abstract thinking), it reengages neural pathways that can be shut down by trauma, and allows us to take deep breaths which slow down our breathing and allows us to think with clarity. Organizationally, debriefing also assists teams in being able to move through an event so they stay connected while also helping individuals stay healthier longer.
While there are many forms of debriefing, Shoreline specializes in debriefing critical incidents, end of terms of service, teams, and individuals, both in person and online.
